Mineola Mayor's Message: 2012 Street Fair Postscript and Jericho Turnpike Roadwork

Mayor Scott Strauss offers thoughts on the recent 2012 village street fair.

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made during the public meeting of the Mineola Village Board on Oct. 3, 2012:

I attended the village street fair that we had on Sunday. It was well attended by vendors and residents and everybody around and in the area had a great time. It was great to see the participation that we had in the village this year. We’re very fortunate here in Mineola to have a very, very active chamber of commerce, they certainly mesh well with everything that goes on here in the village.

Last week I gave a . Part of their requirement for a citizenship badge is to talk to an elected official and we did that. It was one of the good things about being mayor and getting some time, spending some time with some kids that are involved in scouting.

As Tom Rini, the department of public works superintendent, mentioned during the work session, the repaving of Jericho Turnpike is going to begin on October 8 on Monday. It’s a long time coming, it took a couple delays, it’ll be here, it’ll be a slight inconvenience while it’s happening but we will have a new road after it. So please folks, while you’re driving around through Jericho Turnpike and certainly down by Winthrop-University Hospital where they’re doing the research center, take that extra moment and watch out for people crossing the street as well as cars who might be a little confused by some of the roadwork. The roadwork on Jericho Turnpike is going to begin, again, at night; it’s going to be done overnight.

Last Saturday during the homecoming parade for the high school, the board stopped off at Revolution Fitness and did a ribbon cutting so we were doing a little bit of multi-tasking during the parade. Fortunately the parade was long enough that we didn’t miss it and got back into the beginning where we needed to be. So I want to congratulate and welcome Revolution Fitness to the neighborhood and I also want to congratulate the princesses and the king of Mineola High School for a great job and I hope that the football team has a winning season.
