Mineola Mayor’s Message: Flood Mitigation, Bicycle Day and Memorial Day Parade

Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss encourages residents to bring their bike to annual safety day.

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made during the public meeting of the Mineola Village Board on May 15, 2013:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I hope everyone had a great weekend for Mother’s Day. This Sunday the Kiwanis Club and Mineola Bicycle are sponsoring a bike safety day program from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at Mineola Bicycle at Jericho Turnpike and Beebe Road. Please stop by, bring your bicycle, your kids’ bicycles, your grandson, granddaughter’s bicycles and get some safety tips. It’s going to be another great day.

On Monday, May 27 we’ll be having the annual Memorial Day parade in Mineola. It kicks off at 11 a.m. at Wilson Field down by the pool and goes along Westbury Avenue to Roslyn Road, Roslyn Road to Jericho, Jericho over to Marcellus and down Marcellus and ending at the park where there will be a ceremony honoring, memorializing our veterans. Please come out and help us and let the veterans know that Mineola hasn’t forgotten them and won’t forget the sacrifices that they’ve made and continue to make for us.

I’m pleased to announce that through the extensive efforts of Nassau County Legislator Rich Nicolello, the county’s portion of the flood mitigation project here in Mineola on Sheridan Boulevard has been approved by NIFA. It was no small task. We certainly know the challenge that the county’s facing facing, it was approved by NIFA and Rich Nicolello did tremendous, tremendous job in getting this done so that project’s going to move forward with hopefully a very rapid pace now.
