Mineola Village Board Notebook: September 4

Other news from the September 4 village board meeting.

The Mineola Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Wednesday, September 4. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Winthrop Research Building

  • The new Winthrop University Hospital Diabetes Research Center held its topping out ceremony on September 9.
  • Five days later the large crawler crane which has been at the site for the past few months will begin to be taken down using a smaller crane to maneuver the larger one.
  • Village building superintendent Dan Whalen stated that there would continue to be some road closures between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the area.
  • “It had originally been scheduled for the seventh but there was a conflict with the street fair,” he said, adding that “we’ve had no issues of any kind at the site.”

  • The board passed a resolution to pay Donna Axelson for accumulated time as she is resigning as deputy treasurer as of Sept. 6, 2013. The village will also advertise the open position.

Contracts

  • A two-year HVAC maintenance contract ranging from Sept. 1, 2013 to Aug. 31, 2015 was awarded to Dynaire Service at a total cost of $17,700, with $14,350 coming from the general fund and $3,350 paid from the library fund.
  • The village will purchase a new Vermeer BC1500 brush chipper from the NJPA Landscape Equipment contract from dealer Vermeer North Atlantic at a cost of $38,977 to be paid from building department permit revenue.

The financial reports for the village for the month of August 2013 are as follows:

  • 33 residential permits issued for $17,253
  • 18 commercial permits for $15,340
  • six board of zoning appeals appearance for $600
  • 29 plumbing permits for $7,530
  • 20 electrical permits for $2,450
  • 20 title searches for $1,664.25
  • 21 certificates of occupancy for $525
  • 1 licenses for new businesses for $2,645
  • for a subtotal of $48,007.25.
  • There were court dispositions in the amount of $4,750 for a grand total of $52,757.25.
  • There were 12 notices of violation issued and 44 summonses.

Use Requests

  • The Mineola 50-plus basketball group requested use of the community center auditorium basketball courts on Mondays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., when available.

Other Board News

  • A handicapped reserved space was approved in front of 11 Pembrook Drive.
  • The village authorized superintendent of public works Tom Rini and the deputy superintendent to attend the NYCOM Public Works Training School in Lake Placid, NY from Oct. 20 to Oct. 24, 2013.
