Opening of Emory Road Park Delayed

Village reportedly waiting on timbers to hold down play surface.

While most of the playground equipment for the new park on Emory Road has been delivered and installed, a single child has yet to use the swings, slides and other play items. The Village of Mineola cited the cause of the delay as it is still waiting on backordered border timbers which will border each of the play areas and hold the safety surface in place.

“Unfortunately I didn’t want to hold up the entire project waiting on those because we were told that they would be in earlier and they still aren’t in,” superintendent of public works Tom Rini said during the September 4 meeting of the village board at the village hall. “I wanted to be able to get them into the contractors’ schedules that we’re doing the work that we have over there.”

Rini stated that the contractor for the project, Barbato, is different than the fencing contractor.

“The problem is they pretty much have to align right next to each other and I can’t put up the fence and then put those in, it would be too difficult to do it,” Rini said.

As soon as the border timbers arrive, the perimeter fencing will go in and the village will be able to open the park.
