  • The board awarded Dynaire Corporation the village's HVAC service contract at  a cost of $13,021.51 for village buildings and $3,036.80 for the .
  • The Department of Public Works will replace the village's traditional snowplows and salt sprayers with an "AccuBrine" system. AccuBrine "allows us to mix a salt brine to be used when we're treating the streets during snow," superintendent of public works Tom Rini said. Last month the department purchased a garbage truck, hook-lift and dumpster truck to be used along with the AccuBrine system. Rini pointed out that village trucks would have to travel to Babylon to pick up the salt-water brine. The village board approved the purchase of the following equipment in order to use the new system this winter:
    • Five salt pre-wet systems, at $5,807 a piece, from Trius Inc. The systems come with twin, 100-gallon poly tanks, in-cab controls, and pump and spray nozzles. They will be retro-fit and installed on five of the village's existing salt spreaders.
    • Two 22-foot flat bed trucks for transport of the Stellar 65 Series Hook Lift System and anti-icing equipment from JC Industries, at $4,450 a piece.
    • One Anti-Icing Equipment from Trius Inc. for $24,764. The equipment is comprised of a 3,400-gallon tank with baffling inside, three-lane system with in-cab controls, and GPS speed sensors. The price includes installation and mounting of the Stellar 65 Series Hook Lift System on 22-foot flat bed trucks. Rini said that with this equipment, "prior to a storm or in the event of an icing event, we could go out and pre-treat the roads in advance of a storm, which will save us some time and also some money." also pointed out that pre-treating the roads would help reduce the number of potholes in the village. "As the ice bonds with the road and the plows come through, then we end up ripping up chunks of asphalt from our own roads," Martins said.
    • One, 10-foot plow, plow frame, and hydraulic controls purchased from and installed by Nassau County contract for $20,000. "When it's not putting down anti-icing from the AccuBrine system, it can also be used as a plow," said Rini.
    • Two, 20-yard dumpsters at $4,040 each, for the hook lift trucks.
    • One, 30-yard dumpster used on the hook lift trucks, for $4,370.
    • The total cost for all equipment is $95,509.

Road Reconstruction Project:

  • The 2010 road reconstruction on Emory Road, Argyle Road, and Coolidge Avenue has been completed. "Compared to, unfortunately, some of the things we've run into over the last two years," Rini said, "this year went extremely smooth."

The next meeting of the Mineola village board will be on Wednesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall.
