LIAA Arts Education Roundtable

Regent Roger Tilles, representing Long Island on the New York State Board of Regents, and LIAA are convening the Roundtable in an effort to foster support of full-time arts teaching and programs in the schools, while at the same time evaluating and encouraging supplemental arts programming that enhances and supports the work of arts educators. The Roundtable, which includes many of the region’s major arts education stakeholders is coming together in the face of serious budget cuts that are weakening, and in some cases, eviscerating arts programs in our schools.

Commissioner David Steiner will speak to the current state of arts education. Formerly the Dean of the Hunter College School of Education at the City University of New York, Commissioner Steiner is known for his leadership of the national effort to transform teacher preparation and improve teacher quality. He also has been the Director of Arts Education for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Regent Tilles founded LIAA, which brings together the cultural institutions of Long Island. He now serves as Chair of the Advisory board and is known as a vocal advocate for arts education on Long Island and across America.
