Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies Presents: Revitalizing the Church in Society

The Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies is proud to present the conference Revitalizing the Church in Society, which will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the College Center Building. The conference is devoted to analyzing how individual Catholics from the New York metropolitan area are attempting to revitalize their church through their various organizational commitments.

The conference is divided into three parts. In the morning, two consecutive panels of six speakers each will explain how through their respective organizational involvements they try to reinvigorate Catholicism. These panels are moderated respectively by Peggy Clores, Adult Education Coordinator of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Hicksville and Lisa Mladinich, co-founder of Catholic Writers of Long Island. This is followed by an address by Father Brian Barr, a former NCC student, who will highlight some of the efforts in revitalization that have been sponsored by, and taken place in, the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Center. In the afternoon, there will be a panel of four speakers, moderated by Monsignor Robert J. Batule, a professor at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. The panel will discuss a theological overview of the “new evangelization,” implications for ecumenism, integrating traditional and new media and fighting anti-Catholicism.

The Office of Lifelong Learning will mail to those who register a required one-day parking pass and a campus map. Those who require directions on or off campus — especially since the Long Island marathon will necessitate the closing of certain entrances to the College — should contact the Office of Public Safety at 516.572.7100. Only the northern entrances of the campus will be open on May 5.
