“Navigating the Challenges of Children & Diabetes” Free Lecture

It’s a national epidemic. Reports indicate that there is an increase in the number of children being diagnosed with pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes. Yet, many parents are unaware of this growing problem, and that their child, if overweight, may be at an increased risk.

To learn more, parents are invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital’s free Parenting Today lecture, “Navigating the Challenges of Children and Diabetes,” on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.  The program begins with registration at 6:45 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:00, and will focus on pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.  It will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.

Colleen Farley-Cornell, MD, RD, CDN, CDE, Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator and team member of the nationally recognized Winthrop Pediatric Diabetes Program,  will explain pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, factors that contribute to the disease, symptoms, and the lifestyle steps parents take to help improve their child’s well-being.  A question and answer period will follow.
