Mineola Schools Ahead of Schedule on Summer Work

As the start of the school year draws closer, crews in the Mineola School District are reportedly ahead of schedule on the renovations to the various buildings.

As of July 27, the district had relocated over 90 teachers between the various buildings and unpacked “most of them” according to Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler. “We fully anticipate every classroom to be ready at the start of school,” he said at the ’s July 27 meeting at the .

The district has also completely moved out of the and has finished moving into the building.

At the work is continuing on the . A floor contractor was at the site July 27 and the rooms are being gutted and replumbed with the various utility cables and pipes. The cabinets for the room were also delivered and were installed this past Friday. However, there is no air conditioning for the rooms, though all chemicals used in the labs will be stored safely in another room.

Room 131 at the high school has also received a facelift thanks to a $5,000 donation for a “life skills” class. The money will be used to create a kitchen in the room as well as a school store.

“(We’re) ahead of schedule” on many fronts Dr. Nagler said.

Planned renovations to the will be discussed at the Sept. 1 meeting. The renovations would have to be done during a break since the work requires cutting a whole in a wall and possibly some steel work.
