Mineola Students Beautify Barth Commons

Summer program students help landscape middle school garden.

Students from the Mineola Summer Program, which was housed at the  this summer, recently took on the task of cleaning up the newly named Barth Commons.

The commons were named in honor of Mark Barth, who recently retired from serving as principal of the school.

Students from grades seven and eight in Mr. Greer’s class led the way under the direction of Al Weidlein, the program’s principal. The students weeded the gardens located just outside the library, cultivated the soil and put down a layer of black mulch. The result was a neat, clean, beautiful garden spot

All of the students involved in the project had Mr. Barth as their principal, making it was especially meaningful to each of them. The project was keeping with the summer program’s overall theme of community service.
