Mineola Teacher Named to Leadership Council

Hampton Street second grade teacher Jane Whearty selected to Long Island Writing Project council.

Jane Whearty, a second-grade teacher at Hampton Street School in the Mineola Union Free School District, has been selected to be a part of the Long Island Writing Project’s (LIWP) new Leadership Council.

She was chosen for this honor based upon her participation in a four-week 2009 LIWP Summer Invitational, in addition to her interest in joining the team.

LIWP is the local chapter of the National Writing Project site, which belongs to a network of 200 sites across the country dedicated to developing teacher leadership and improving student performance.

As a member of elite Leadership Council, Whearty will be collaborating with the LIWP and Mineola’s teacher team throughout the year in an effort to launch new programs, support area teachers and provide professional development opportunities to colleagues.
