Falcons Football Freezes Out Mineola 39-13

Locust Valley forces Mustangs early playoff exit for second straight year.

While those in the stands at Centre Island Beach Village Park Saturday night were busy huddling in blankets, the Locust Valley Falcons were busy acting as such, covering the Mineola varsity football team endzone to endzone, literally freezing them out 39-13.

“We thought we were going to do much better, we’re disappointed because we ,” Mineola head coach Dan Guido said, referring to the season opener.

The Falcon defensive line turned in their best impression of a block of ice as Mineola repeatedly ran a handoff play with a quick dive over the center, coming up with only about four or less yards each time.

Mineola had dug themselves a hole from which they would never recover right from the start as Falcon WR Alex Rawa picked off Mineola QB Rob Clarkin on the opening drive, returning it for a 50-yard touchdown.

“The kid made a good play, it wasn’t a good way to start,” Guido said.

The Mustangs would not even get on the scoreboard until midway through the second quarter, when Steve Napolitano managed to plow through the Flacon defensive line on a 60-yard dash to the 2-yard line while Clarkin found Pantelides in the end zone.

“It was a good run, kinda put us in the game for a couple of seconds,” Guido said.

The Locust Valley defense would keep the Mustangs further at bay until late in the fourth when Clarkin hooked up with Breslin to bring Mineola’s point total to 13.

It is the second year in a row that Mineola has exited the playoffs in the first round to the No. 1 seed, with an eerily similar .

“We lost but the game was closer,” Guido said of the score in the second quarter. “We really have played well in the last three to 4 weeks and we thought we were going to have a much better game and we just, can’t explain why but didn’t seem to do well.”
