Flyers Basketball Storms Salesian 77-32

Chaminade pounds Pride by raining down 11 field goals.

Some games are over before they even start; others within the first few seconds after tip off.

Senior guard John Gallego had started the Chaminade basketball team off as well as could be expected against Salesian Tuesday, draining a fieldgoal shortly after tip off.

It was a portend of things to come for the Flyers as a storm of three-pointers fell through the Salesian net to match the downpour happening outside the Chaminade Activities & Athletic Center.

When the smoke cleared the Flyers had racked up 11 from behind the arc on their way to a 77-32 win to go 2-0 on the young season.

“We were really shooting the ball well, but the most important thing was that we had great ball movement,” Flyers coach James Quinn said after the game.

Seven Chaminade players nailed 3-pointers, with nine of junior guard Brian Ehrhardt’s 11 points coming from behind the arc.

“Brian… didn’t even play much on the JV last year but he’s tremendously improved,” Quinn said, noting how the junior had increased in stature since the 2010-11 season.

Salesian for their part couldn’t get out of their own way, missing numerous layups and hitting the rim countless times in the first half.

Flyer senior Patrick Farrell was given ample opportunity to pick the ball off the defensive glass.

“Farrell gets every rebound available and he’s playing great for us,” Quinn said.

The 6’4” forward was taken out in the fourth, but not before putting an exclamation point on his 13 point performance with a slam dunk at the end of the third and briefly hanging off the eastern rim.
