Flyers Take Soccer Season Opener 1-0

St. Benedict's outshot Chaminade but defense holds strong.

Senior Richard Peteka scored the only goal for Chaminade to open the soccer season at St. Benedict's (New Jersey) Tuesday, but it was enough to get the Flyers the 1-0 non-league victory.

Peteka scored with 8:20 left in the first half on an assist from Nick Cadispotti as the defense made it hold up. St. Benedict's outshot Chaminade 16-2 in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Ricky Berotti had 10 saves, including two from point-blank range in the first half.

Chaminade (1-0) is the No. 9 team on the ESPN Rise Poll while St. Benedicts is ranked 12th.
