Flyers Wrestling Places Fifth at Bruin's Cup Tournament

Chaminade fights their way to fifth place in tournament at Baldwin Senior High School.

The  wrestling team made a valiant showing at the Baldwin Senior High School Bruin's Cup Tournament this past Saturday morning and afternoon. The team, consisting of a few seniors, juniors, but mostly sophomores and freshman managed to place fifth among the schools who participated. Freeport, Long Beach, Kellenberg, East Meadow, Sewanhaka, Longwood, and Baldwin were among some of the school present.

Coach George Dlugolonski, in his 38th year as head coach of the Flyer's wrestling program, as well as assistant coaches Scott Cole, Stephen Beovich, Pat Doherty, John Witzenbocker, and Will Ress, were on hand to provide their charges with leadership and strategy. 

Coach Dlugolonski acknowledges that . "We have a young team this year," he said. Assistant Coach Beovich shared the same sentiment, saying that "the next year, we will be better and better. There is a lot of potential on this team."

"Some of the kids were disappointed that they didn't place higher, but a lot of them battled their way to third place," Dlugolonski said.  The points that they fought for will be crucial when they make it to the championships next time." Taking lessons from the Bruins Cup Tournament Dlugolonski said that "as a wrestler, you learn more from your losses than from your victories."
