Mineola 10U Intramural Baseball Wins Third Straight

East Williston gets blown out 17-5 at Willis Avenue field.

Following two weeks of cancellations due to rain, the (MAA) fall 10U intramural baseball team hosted the East Williston 10U team at the Willis Ave. field complex this past Sunday, earning a 17-5 win.

“I thought with the two week break due to rain, the players might come out flat,” Mineola coach Ken Solosky said, commenting on the offense and defense, “but they picked up right where they left off , playing sound fundamental baseball.”

Mineola pitching stifled the East Williston offense throughout, spreading five hits over six innings. Starting pitcher Kevin Roach earned the win while Robert Egan and Nick Librandi threw in relief.

The Mineola defense almost managed a 6-4-3 double play against the visitors when thirdbaseman Joey Boshans knocked down a hot grounder, scrambling to his feet and fired a throw to second for the first out. Derek Lekwani continued the relay to first but was beaten to the bag by half a step from the East Williston player.

In the fourth, East Williston managed a bunt base hit down the third base line ending with a wide throw to first. Seeing the error on the throw, the East Williston player made a turn heading for second but was picked off as Kenny Solosky threw behind the runner after backing up the play.

Tommy Curry, Kevin Roach, Kenny Solosky, Patrick Lanigan, Kieran O’Gara also filled in the RBI column. Andrew Geagher stole two bases and scored another two runs.

“The players are having fun and learning,” coach Solosky said. “These are a great group of kids and it shows in their on-field performance.”
