The Mineola boys varsity lacrosse played their final regular game of the 2013 season Friday afternoon against a tough Friends Academy team on the Quakers home field. The game was never in doubt as Friends jumped out to a quick 6-2 first quarter lead en route to a dominating 14-5 victory.
The Quakers tough trio, Pierce Dellafera, Will Sands and Kellan Sehring overwhelmed the Mineola defense from the start of the game. The three attackmen each recorded a hat trick in the game firing shot after shot on Mustang goalie, John Clancy. Despite being overworked in goal, Clancy managed eight saves in the game.
Mineola got good performances out of junior, Tim Gill who had two goals in the game and Brian Gaffney, Mike Sullivan and Dan Mendes who each had one goal. But the Mustangs played from behind the whole game. down 6-2 after the first quarter and 9-2 at halftime. Every time they managed to get the ball on the Friends side of the field their goal scoring attempts were thwarted as the Quakers proved quicker to the ball. The majority of loose balls that were picked up in the scrums ended up with the Quakers.
Mineola is now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in conference as they head into the conference playoffs. They will play against No. 5 Oyster Bay on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Hofstra.
