Expectations: After going 12-5 last season and being named the Nassau Conference II Champions, Mineola was eliminated in the Class ‘C’ semifinals by Manhasset. With eight of his players returning, coach Massaro says that the team is just aiming to get into the playoffs.

“We’re going to vie for a playoff spot in our conference,” he said. “I don’t want to say we’re going to vie for a championship... but you never know. We want to be vying for a playoff spot and we want to be improving from now until the end of the year and hopefully we can make some noise in the playoffs.”

Coach Massaro says: “We have a couple of returning all-county players. We lost a couple of really good players, so we more or less have to build our defense. The defense is all new. The defense is young. We have a very young, inexperienced defense. We have a couple of kids who can score some goals. Kerri Medlock is a true goal-scorer.”

Notes: This year the conference alignments were changed into groups of ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ schools, with Mineola being in the ‘C’ group of 13 teams. The girls’ biggest matchups will come against Cold Spring Harbor and North Shore, which they will not face until May 3 and 5, respectively.
